The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers tease that Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) will be facing some tough times ahead. As B&B viewers know, Steffy was recently in a terrible accident while riding her motorbike, and she woke up in a tremendous amount of pain.
She was given her first dose of pain meds by her new doctor, John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), who is also slated to become Steffy’s new love interest on the show.
Well, there’s been a lot of anticipation about a possible addiction storyline coming for Steffy, since patients do sometimes become addicted to painkillers following serious accidents and injuries just like Steffy’s.
It would be hard to imagine Steffy going without pain meds given the nature of her injuries, but the risk of addiction is very real if she does take them, so she may find herself in between a rock and a hard place.
Perhaps TPTB are planning for a typical addiction storyline for Steffy, where she initially resists pain meds but eventually takes them and becomes addicted. That’s one route that the story could go, but it might be more interesting if the show takes a slightly different tack.
It certainly looks like Steffy is going to resist taking pain meds, since B&B spoilers say that Finn, Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson), and others will urge her to take them if she needs them.
Perhaps the tension in the storyline will come primarily from Steffy wanting to tough it out so that she can avoid the likelihood of addiction. We could see Steffy in so much pain that she can’t do things like pick up her own daughter, which might make her consider regularly taking pain meds.
Yet Steffy could realize the risks associated with the painkillers, and she could get some up-close-and-personal help from Finn in managing her medications in such a way that she doesn’t become addicted.
For example, there are things that Steffy could do, with Finn’s help, that could keep her from misusing her prescribed meds.
Steffy could rely on others to dispense her medication, or she could stick to a rigid schedule monitored by someone else (like Finn) so that she’s not tempted to over-use the drugs and become addicted.
There could be a strong story here if Steffy has to deal with the challenges of dealing with severe ongoing pain while simultaneously resisting the urge to pop pills to feel “normal.”
In a way, that storyline could be more interesting than a typical addiction storyline, which is pretty predictable.
And if Steffy’s got Finn helping her to muddle through the pain management process without getting addicted to her meds, that would be the perfect opportunity for a romantic relationship to develop between the two characters.
We’ll see what happens here, but we wonder exactly what TPTB have in store for Steffy, Finn, and Steffy’s ongoing chronic pain resulting from the accident.
Love is going to blossom between Steffy and Finn somehow, which is something that fans have been waiting anxiously for, and it would be cool to see it done in a creative, different way.
