In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, the whole unit faced a dark few months when they weren’t working. This included Detective Atwater. He kept his head. He did the job even if it wasn’t the job he wanted. Yet, he found himself in that same position again when he got pulled for the Violence Reduction Initiative.

He was back in uniform for this one albeit temporarily and he ran into an old friend. Her name is Tasha Fox. She was back in uniform for the initiative as well. They were patrolling the area together when Tasha revealed that this was her last week. She was transferring to Miami.

The Miami Police Department was offering them a five grand bonus to transfer. She also gets to carry over her pension as well. She gets better weather and she thinks it will also lead to better treatment in Miami than Chicago.

In Chicago, the cops were the villains. She didn’t feel the department had their back. Atwater was doing his best to convince her differently when a bomb went off. The bomb detonated right in downtown Chicago. It was a lot of traffic and that meant a lot of victims in this case.

It was a building that was targeted. Atwater was the senior officer on the scene. He told Tasha to clear everyone to the building nearby while he searched for survivors in the building that was targeted.

Atwater tried to clear each floor. He got a woman out hopefully in time. Her injuries looked serious. With Atwater at the scene, this became an Intelligence case. Commander Devlin didn’t want to question it. He knew Voight would get answers. It’s the only thing that matters in a case like this. The bomb was full of nails and harmful material. It was designated to kill.

It was a targeted hit. The bomb was delivered to a high real estate group. They were having a meeting that day. The partners were all in that one office when it was hit and most of them are dead now.

It turns out they’ve been getting bad press. The media has written they’d get paid for tearing down the city. The city asked them to do it. It’s not like it’s a secret the city was broke now. It wasn’t the real estate group’s fault that was the case. It was the local officials who messed up. And yet someone sent a bomb to that office building not caring who got hurt.

There were people that were affected on the ground. Some of them got killed. Atwater saw one man fleeing and he alerted Tasha. They pursued him on foot. They ran through oncoming traffic. Atwater caught the suspect. Only Tasha wasn’t right behind him. He got upset with her. He thought she slow-walked it because she was leaving. Atwater was the one that got her named temporarily to Intelligence to help out with this case. He didn’t think the decision would come back to bite him so fast.

The man they were chasing wasn’t their bomber. He was merely a stalker. His ex-wife has a protection order out against him and he was stalking her. He was taking photos of her building. He has a record from twenty years ago that he claimed was all water under the bridge. Only Ricky proved helpful much later on. He was released and they found out that the bomber was a white guy. He was much shorter than Ricky. He put the bomb in a delivery package because he knew it would be taken to someone’s office.

He might not know they had a meeting that day. What was known was that he was targeting these people specifically. They’ve received threats from emails to voicemails. It was hard to determine who could do this when there was so many of them. Tasha redeemed herself. She checked the footage from that day and she saw that the bomber avoided the official cameras. He just didn’t avoid Ricky’s camera. Ricky was taking photos of his ex-wife because he thinks she’s sleeping with her boss. And he wants to use that in their divorce.

Tasha saw that Ricky accidentally took photos of the bomber. She used her contacts. She got Ricky’s location and both she and Atwater worked together to get Ricky to hand them the photo. They got the photo. It was Chris Lubiak. He has no family. His parents are dead. He dropped out of college. Before he dropped out, he majored in chemical engineering. He was their bomber. They went to his home and they didn’t find him. They did find his computer. It had all the manifestos on it. Tasha also noticed that someone was holding the camera as he ranted about the rich.

Lubiak claimed they were destroying a city that was built for everyone. He detonated a second bomb. He destroyed a car and thankfully no one was hurt that time. The police soon found his sole friend in the world, Ben.

Ben claimed that he thought the videos were for Youtube. He didn’t knock that Lubiak was going to act on it. Its not like he ever posted any of the videos. Lubiak created several that he destroyed for it not being perfect. Ben couldn’t help them capture Lubiak. He was on the run and so Voight ordered that the city exits be searched so that Lubiak couldn’t escape.

They eventually cornered Lubiak in a closed down building. When Atwater needed her, Tasha had his back. She took a grazing to her arm and Atwater put down Lubiak. The bomber was dead. They were searching his hideout to see if he had any more bombs leftover. And there wasn’t any.

The case was over and Atwater celebrated it by sleeping with Tasha. They were apparently more than friends back at the academy, but she did tell him that he could visit her in Miami anytime. Tasha went through a lot in Chicago. Miami offers a fresh start.

THE END!
