In tonight’s Fire Country episode, Bode will never forgive Jake. Jake stopped him from going after his family. They were trapped in a burning building. The roof gave way and Jake stopped him. Bode wasn’t going to remember anything else other than that because he lost someone that night.
He lost his dad. Battalion Chief Vince Leone died in the fire. His elderly father made sure that Sharon got out in time and he went with her to ensure she stayed put. They were both taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. It had been chaos in there. And by time the firefighters found Vince, it had been too late.
Bode was blaming Jake because it was easier than acknowledging his own part in the chaos. He was benched from the Zabel Ridge fire. He had a bum knee and so that’s why he was around when his grandfather called. His grandfather said that the fire was heading towards his retirement home.
Bode went over there. He tried to clear the building in time. He wasn’t able to. He also couldn’t convince his grandfather to leave his best friend behind. Walter stayed and that’s why Bode stayed. They found the friend. Bode was leaving with him when his knee gave out.
Unfortunately, that was also right around the time that Walter started wandering. Walter has dementia. He sometimes wanders aimlessly. Bode should have remembered it and he should have known to keep an eye on him. Bode got Walter’s pal out. He just didn’t get Walter out.
Vince and Sharon had to breach to find Walter. They found him. The ceiling then gave way. Vince was killed instantly. Sharon and Walter were the only survivors. Losing Vince was tough enough. His funeral broke people in the worst way.
With Vince gone, Station 42 needed a new Battalion Chief. Several of them wanting the job showed up at the funeral. This included his worst possible enemy. His name is Brett Richards. Vince absolutely hated him. Sharon was kicking him out when her son and Jake got into a fight.
Jake saw everyone lining up for the job. He mentioned that he was going to go after it. Bode overheard it and he couldn’t believe it. He couldn’t believe that Jake was joshing for the job before the funeral was over.
They got into a shouting match. Both of them said horrible things to each other. They were both out of line and their shouting match got attention from the whole crowd. Sharon broke it up.
She reminded them that this wasn’t the time. She also said that everyone could see what she did. Station 42 was left broken after Vince. They needed time to heal. Sharon as Division Chief suspended Station 42. She essentially regulated to non-emergency calls. They called in firefighters from Mendicino to cover them.
Everyone thought it would be a short suspension. Then two months went by without a word. Sharon still hasn’t returned them to duty. The firefighters that came to Edgewater to help were missing their families.
Sharon was just catatonic. Her suspending was last thing she did before she hid from the world in her house. Manny went over there. He made sure she was sleeping and eating. Gabriella did the same for Bode. Audrey was in legal trouble from shooting Finn last season. She could be facing charges if they don’t accept her plea of self-defense.
Bode told Audrey that he has a whole bunch of people looking out for him. It was her that needed her former prison mom. He sent her back to the East coast to stay until she heard back from the District Attorney. In the meantime, Bode did a lot helping the community. He slept at the firehouse.
He didn’t want to return to the apartment and so he slept there. He made it his home. He worked all hours of the day to make up for living there. He did countless clothes drive for the community. Edgewater as a whole suffered thanks to the fire.
42 was keeping their hands down when they got an emergency call from the other firefighters. They needed urgent back up and Bode talked Jake into going.
They were barely talking to each other, but Bode pushed until they took the call. No one told Sharon. She found out about it afterwards when Luke stopped by the house. Luke was trying to get Sharon to see Walter. They’ve both lost children. Sharon wasn’t really angry with Walter. She was angry at herself because she blamed herself for Vince dying. She was the senior officer at the scene. She was at fault.
Luke was talking her out of it when Sharon overheard his radio. He was still in uniform. She overheard that 42 unbenched itself. There was a moment when Gabriella took a huge risk.
Only she and Bode helped save a firefighter. They got to talking later on. They both still love each other and they knew that love was never the problem. It was the everything else. Bode also said goodbye to Gabriela. She was offered a job in the PR department because an Olympian turned paramedic that saved her stalker’s life was really hyped up in the media. And now she was traveling the country recruiting people for CalFire.
So, this was a goodbye but it was a new beginning after she left because they got a new Battalion Chief. Luke made some calls trying to help and he made everything worse. CalFire brought in Brett Richards to replace Vince.
THE END!
