In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, Chimney has been having nightmares. He was captain now. It was his call and he was worried that call might kill his new probie. Harry was young. Harry was Bobby’s stepson. Chimney didn’t want anything happening to him. Which was why he treated him literally with kid gloves.
He wouldn’t even let him do the coffee run and Harry’s only work experience was as a barista. Chimney claimed he didn’t want him scalding himself. He sent Ravi in his place. He had day dreams throughout the day that somehow Harry would get injured on the job. It was an obsession now.
Their first call should’ve been enough to convince him to ease up. 911 got a call from Reid. Reid was a young boy who still wanted to be Superman. His mother was a bit overzealous with his safety.
She wouldn’t let him play sports or attend a friend’s birthday party at the roller rink. They were arguing about that party when she took her eyes off the pressure cooker and it exploded. It knocked her out. It created a fire in their kitchen. It was Reid who reached into the fire to turn off the gas. He didn’t feel it because he doesn’t feel pain. Its also explained why his mother was so vigilant.
It’s hard to parent a child that doesn’t feel pain because they’ll never know if they’re in danger. Or if a common cold was harder on their body than they thought. Reid’s mother was right to be worried and one day Reid will realize it too. She just couldn’t protect him from everything. Buck said that and it got Chimney thinking.
He wondered if he was being the same as Reid’s mom with Harry. His kids are still small and so he doesn’t have to worry about them going out into the real world for a while.
Things were different with Harry. Harry was someone they all kept an eye after Bobby’s death. They watched out for him and protected him because they knew that’s what Bobby would want.
The same Bobby that died so that Chimney got to go home to his own family. Chimney saw Reid’s story and it made him think, but it didn’t make him let go of his fears. He refused to let Harry into the field. Eddie was also picking up more teenagers. Remember Abigail. Her parents were performing an exorcism on her when really she was just being a teenager.
Abigail actually became sick after she was tied to a metal bed. She got tetanus after injuring herself. Her parents thought she had demons and the truth was she had been sick.
She would’ve died without medical care. Abigail was taken to a hospital. Her parents got arrested for child abuse. Abigail’s life hasn’t been easy since their arrest. She entered the foster care system. They kicked her out when she turned eighteen and they gave her a bus ticket to her grandmother’s. The old woman gave Abigail her car as a means of leaving her life.
Abigail has been living out of that car ever since. She talked to Eddie after he testified against her parents. They were currently on trial for abuse and so he knew she was struggling.
He reached out to Alex. He asked Alex if she could help her. He then convinced Abigal to accept help. The girl was angry and she had no place to put it. Its what got her to talking to Eddie in the first place. Her parents’ lawyer implied that he was angry guy who viewed the defendants through that lens. Eddie didn’t realize until much later on that Abigail latched onto him.
She imprinted on him because what she desperately needed was someone to care. She showed up at his house after he got her housing. She ate dinner with him and Chris. She hugged him. She tried to stay the night. Abigail didn’t want to let Eddie go and Eddie was beginning to see it as a problem.
Eddie saw her as a kid because she nearer to Chris’s age than his own. Chris was fifteen. Abigal was eighteen. Abigail thoughts about Eddie might not be so clear cut. She appeared jealous of Alex being someone that Eddie would call.
Abigail tried to ask about it at dinner too. She asked if he thought Alex was pretty. She was pretty. Abigail seemed jealous of that fact and it appeared as if she wanted Eddie for herself.
She ended up leaving rather awkwardly when she thought Eddie was inviting her to stay the night when really he was asking her if she was okay to drive. It late at night after all. Eddie knew he had to mention her odd behavior to someone. He just forgot about it. He and the others went to Hen to mention what was happening to Harry.
Hen then spoke to Chimney. She told him that he was acting like Captain Gerard. He was too afraid to let the probie do anything. It finally gave Chimney the push he needed.
He allowed Harry into the field. It was Harry who went on to his life. They shut down traffic to deal with a garbage truck on fire. Some people ignored the cones to keep driving.
Chimney had a nightmare once of Harry getting by such a driver and so when it happened in real life – he panicked. He tried to stop the traffic with his own body and Harry had to pull him out of the way before he got hit by a car.
Harry got to be treated as a real probie after that. He got Bobby’s knife to carry with him. Chimney soon got to baby his own children. Reid’s mom even agreed to let him go rollerblading. And Eddie completely forgot about Abigail until she kidnapped Chris.
THE END!
