On tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Chief Pascal might lose his job. Only he did one good thing before he potentially leaves. He got Mouch back at Firehouse 51. Mouch returned to his favorite mug and he learned not much has changed. His friends were still keeping the spirit of the house the same.
The one difference was Pascal’s new assistant. Her name is Lucy. She was supposed to start several shifts earlier and didn’t get the chance because this was her first government job. The paperwork was backed up. He was now there to report for duty. There was just no Pascal because he was still in his disciplinary hearing. And so there was one more person waiting for the verdict from it.
The station soon received a call out. Kidd went. There was a fire at an old warehouse. Kidd was on the ladder extended to the top floor when a truck refused to stop. It came barreling past and it knocked Kidd off the ladder. She managed to grab onto some wiring. She was dangling in the air.
The ladder lost power so they couldn’t extend it to her. Severide had to go up and save his wife himself. He got rope towards her. She was able to latch on and was slowly lowered to the ground by Cruz. Kidd was nearly killed because of that one driver.
The firefighters eventually reported that driver to the CPD. Severide warned the officer that took the report that he wasn’t going to let this one go. The man nearly killed his wife. Severide was ticked off and he had more reasons to get angry when Chief Pascal showed up at the station.
Pascal said he’s been made an example of. He was fired by CFD. He came in to tell everyone and work his last shift ever. He initially thought he’d just be demoted. Maybe if he hadn’t technically broken federal law he might have received a mere demotion.
But things were a little touchy between Chicago and the federal government. There wasn’t anyone that wanted to kick that hornet’s nest. CFD sending Pascal an assistant after he was fired just goes to show that no one was paying attention to the paperwork.
Mouch decided in a last minute fit of rebellion that he wasn’t going to submit his paperwork on the memorial terrorist attack. He wanted to push back against the system. His Chief was there to remind him that what happened to him was mere due diligence.
The FBI gave him an order not to enter the building. He ignored. He got arrested. He’s since been fired and he doesn’t want the same for Mouch. Mouch just got back to the 51.
He shouldn’t put it at risk over anything. Not even for Pascal. Pascal said as much. He wanted to keep his people safe while they were still his people. It’s why he allowed Severide to go off with his unit to investigate the truck that nearly killed Kidd. The police said there were too many box trucks that drove the route. They couldn’t tell which was the perp.
Severide returned to the scene with his men. He did math to determine how tall the truck was. He remembered the man driving it so his description of him and the size of the truck should give them their guy. What no one noticed was how seriously Severide was taking this whole thing.
He became vigilant about it and there’s always a chance that the mood can shift to something dangerous. Severide spent the whole of Pascal’s last shift looking for that truck. The firefighters found it after they got called out to the scene of an accident.
The truck had hit a pole. The driver got out to flee the scene. He was probably injured and hadn’t gotten very far so Kidd gave the order to fan out to find him. The driver was clearly drunk. He has a nasty wound to his head. He was forced to accept help from the medics. Severide was called to ID him.
Kidd then returned to the firehouse to answer what happened at the call. Pascal has been the hardest on Kidd. She finally asked about it on his last shift. He told her that he saw endless potential in her. He doesn’t throw stuff at her that she couldn’t handle.
Pascal saw himself in her. He thought she’d go very far in CPD if she didn’t try to run from it. There was a part of her that’s hidden away her medals because she thought she didn’t deserve it when she did. She deserved so much more than that too. Severide in the meantime didn’t just want to ID the suspect.
He wanted to harm him. Cruz stopped him. He stopped him just long enough for CPD to show up. They got Severide to identify the suspect as the guy. He has two previous DUIs and odds are that nearly killing a city official will be his final straw.
Pascal wasn’t just leaving CFD. He was going to stop being a firefighter altogether. He packed up his stuff and he was saying goodbye to everyone. And Mouch finally gave in his paperwork – he gave a copy of it to Pascal so that Pascal could understand how great of a leader he was.
It made Pascal realize he might not be done with firefighting after all.
Pascal’s final gift to Severide was to leave him his office, now lets see if Severide can hold onto it.
THE END!
