In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Detective Kevin Atwater never envisioned himself anywhere other than Chicago. It wasn’t until he ran into an old friend from the academy that he learned there were other options. Tasha moved to Miami. She was going to be a cop there. The weather was nicer and the pay was better. Chicago was broke.

They were less hours so that the city could save money. They all couldn’t live on it. Atwater was lucky that Intelligence was so needed because that meant he didn’t have to worry about pay cuts. Or shifts. They were constantly investigating new gangs and there will always be a new gang in Chicago.

Tasha left for Miami because it was the best decision for her. She told Atwater to call her if he ever wants to visit. He’s been trying to write a message to her for months. He always erased it.

He was too afraid to send the message. No matter how many times his friend urged him to just take a risk. He listened because he did want to take a risk and so he was going to buy that ’68 Mustang he saw. He drives by it all the time. He finally stopped by the car dealership tonight. He took it for a test drive and he got the owner to come down by twenty-five hundred.

It was a great deal. Atwater went into the office to do the paperwork when he overheard gunshots. Someone stole the car. They did so after shooting and killing the owner.

His name was Mark Albright. Atwater liked him. He respected him. He also quickly avenged him. He shot and killed one of the assailants who was later identified as Alex Roth. Roth had no living relatives. His partner drove off. Leaving him indicated that they weren’t close. The crew Roth in proved to be smart because they collected cell phones before the homicide.

They were responsible for several other thefts. They’ve killed before. They weren’t worried about body counts. They happily committed felony murder and they weren’t going to stop.

So, Atwater decided to make them stop. He found the original car that they were using to trail them. It has something illegal on it called Triangle Plates. It means that it reads differently in different angles and they were all bogus. There were only a handful of people that knew much less could put on a triangle plate. One of them was Casper.

They tracked down Casper. They got him to give up a name. He installed the plates on a street racer that went by Lolo. His real name was Lawrence Vaughn. He was a street racer.

He apparently drove the car he tails people to one of those races. Atwater approached him as a supposed friend of Roth’s. His undercover persona was as Roth’s cellmate in prison. He wanted to know how his friend died. He demanded answers and he quickly inserted himself into Vaughn’s life. Vaughn eventually took him to the others.

This wasn’t some two person operation. They were more players. They might be selling these cars overseas and so Atwater got Vaughn to introduce him. He passed the first test.

The second test was going to be harder. He had to steal an expensive car. He was all prearranged to look real when it wasn’t. They stole a Lamborghini that was borrowed from the police lot. It was also quickly returned when the guy that ran the crew didn’t want it. Duke was smart. He picked up cars that he knew people weren’t going to come looking for. The Lamborghini was too hot even for him.

He didn’t want to potentially anger a drug dealer. Atwater and Vaughn ditched the car. Duke then told them that he had a job for them the next day at three. But Vaughn wanted out. Vaughn wasn’t a killer. He drove the getaway car. He didn’t actually steal the cars or shoot anyone. His father died in the military.

His mother overdosed his senior year in high school. He’s been on his own ever since. He wasn’t a bad guy. Atwater revealed he was a cop when he saw that Vaughn was looking to leave town. He told him that it was too late for that.

Vaughn could be tried as an accomplice. He agreed to work with the cops in return for being written down as an informant. Vaughn wouldn’t have to testify. It was their agreement.

Vaughn had no other choice than to agree. He took the deal and he wore a wire to get Duke to admit they killed those people. He got what he set out to do. There was no way of hiding his part and he did get shot though Vaughn was going to be alright. His slate got wiped clean. He can now leave Chicago if he really wanted to start over somewhere fresh.

Atwater arrested the Duke and his guy. They were going away for a long time. The cops got them to give them the location of the cars and so those were at least recovered. And Atwater ended his day with a visit from Tasha.

She wanted to tell him she was pregnant and he was so happy about a new baby.

THE END!
