It was a stressful call. There were two counties on the line. Manny was made to answer for everything he did that day in the aftermath. He was questioned by Luke of all people. Luke and Manny have bad blood. Luke tried to shut down Three Rock. It resulted in Manny punching him and going back to prison. Now, things were different. Manny was Battalion Chief. He took the position after Luke’s brother died. Luke was his boss. He had to tell him everything that happened that day. He started off by saying they lost contact with Jake.

It wasn’t known at the time, but Jake was in an accident with his brother. They were getting a ride down the mountain in an engine. The engine crashed with three people inside. Jake, his brother Malcom, and Engineer Ringo Erickson. Bode survived the fire with Tyler. He saved Tyler’s life. What Tyler did was reckless. Tyler stowed away in Manny’s car. He was then told to stay in the car. He left when he overheard the radio saying someone needed additional batteries. Tyler had no clue what he was doing. He really should’ve just stayed in the car.

Bode went after him because Tyler went right in the path of the fire. Bode saved his life. He kept them both alive until the worst of it had passed. Then he and Tyler were on the move again. They couldn’t go back the way they came because that area was cut off by the fire. They went down the mountain. They spotted the engine with Jake inside. Jake was fine. His brother was also fine. The one in trouble was Erickson. He was unconscious. He had a nasty head wound. And their engine knocked down a power line that could start another fire.

They couldn’t get down the mountain. The engine coming to pick them up kept getting redirected because of the fire. Sharon ordered a water drop and it would take too long. Bode came up with an idea. He said they could use the water gun on the fallen engine. Sharon vetoed the plan. Manny okayed it when she wasn’t looking. Technically, the plan worked. Bode got out with Malcom, Tyler, and Erickson. It was Jake who controlled the gun to give them coverage. Then just as he was about to escape the fire roared back. Jake took a misstep. He got caught in the ladder that trapped his foot.

This all came out as Manny was being interviewed by Luke. Luke also interviewed Sharon. One of them had to take the fall for what happened. Jake radioed Manny. He said he was cut off. He said don’t send anyone after him. Sharon took over the scene and said the water drop was coming. It was Bode and Malcolm that refused to wait for it. They spoke to Manny. Manny agreed to send them into the fire. They climbed over rough terrain only to find Jake injured. Jake needed to be guided out. And that was a problem.

They had to climb back over rough terrain. Guiding an injured man over rough terrain man was harder than it looked. Malcolm fell. He injured his head. He soon woke up only he was in no position. Bode had to carry him over his shoulder. Malcolm had a hard fall. He needed urgent medical attention. Chief Springer was full of complaints when he saw another one of his men down. Even Jake was upset with Manny. He told him not to send anyone in after him and Manny went against it because it was Jake.

Manny saw Jake become the firefighter he has. He couldn’t leave him to die. Nor did he mention to Luke how he got a black eye. He just said the tempers ran hot that day and the truth is that technically Manny did a great job. Edgewater as well as the county over were both saved thanks to Manny’s actions that day. It didn’t matter that Sharon punched him. Luke knew about it because Sharon came clean. She didn’t try to justify it. She openly admitted that the fire with a loved one in danger reminded her of the Zabel Ridge Fire.

Malcolm was left in a coma. Tyler was talking to the ATF. Luke decided not to hold Manny’s actions that day against him. He was going to overlook the concerning behavior this once. Probably because it did involve family for him. The new Three Rock held the line. They kept that fire from destroying Edgewater thanks to Manny. Manny gave the orders and he let those young men become Eve’s team now.

What no one could expect was that Tyler would later confess to being responsible for the arson that started the Zabel Ridge Fire.

The End
