In tonight’s The Rookie episode, Officer John Nolan agreed to try long-distance. He didn’t want his wife giving up a promotion for him. He felt their relationship was strong enough for them to do long-distance and so he gave her his blessing.
Only navigating long-distance was harder done than said. Nolan had his hands full with work. There was first a double homicide. They received reports of a woman covered in blood and banging on doors. They arrived to find said victim dying. Her name was Courtney Sutton. She used her last breath to try and get help for her best friend, Jordan Sharpe.
Unfortunately, neither young woman survived the night. They had been best friends since middle school. They took time off before starting college to try out the van life.
They were supposed to make trips across the country. They instead made several trips to Baja. They were most likely drug mules because they were young, pretty, and women. The border authorities simply waved them through without checking them. They were the perfect mules. They were perfect until something went wrong.
They weren’t killed for doing a stellar job. They probably tried to stop being mules or lost some drugs. They were killed by the cartel. The next question being in which cartel.
Lucy was one of the first on the scene. The scene was just too sad for her to ignore. She alerted Detective Harper about what happened. She wanted some unbiased eyes to take a look at the work she did. She wanted to ultimately investigate the murders and she couldn’t do that because she wasn’t a detective. Harper was.
Harper also had a lot of free time because she was under investigation. Wesley did what he promised. He reported her actions to Internal Affairs.
She could be fired over misconduct and that meant she had nothing left to lose. She took on this case. She and Lucy believed they found the right cartel. The one problem lies was that they needed an FBI Agent to make the Mexican police play nice. They got Sergent Grey to sign off on it. He got Garza’s niece Elena to oversee the investigation as an FBI Agent.
They also roped in Celina to do the grunt work. They all headed down to Mexico. Lucy and Harper were undercover as two lovers. They met two years ago.
They were still finding themselves in the world. It helps that Elena gave them a great background online. They were buying cheap Ozempic in Mexico to sell at triple the cost in Mexico. It was a few days before they were approached by someone Costa Sangre cartel. Both Lucy and Harper have gone undercover. They played their parts well.
The others were chipping in now that Nolan’s second case blew up in his face. His probie was a little too gun-ho. They were supposed to be surveilling a baby mama of a gangbanger.
The gangbanger was threatening witnesses and he was wanted by authorities. Miles saw the guy pull up. He was in such a rush that he opened the car door first without getting Nolan’s permission.
It spooked Keshaun DeMarco. DeMarco ran. Miles forgot to protect the perimeter. He just ran after the guy and then lost him at the car wash.
Miles was still on probation. He could potentially lose his job over this. Miles was desperate to make up for what he did and so he wasn’t like everyone else.
Everyone else assumed that DeMarco headed for Mexico. It’s the only reason why pulled off surveillance. Miles went back to the house to surveil the place during his off hours.
He was barely sleeping so he got Seth to help. They were surveilling together until Seth got up to grab something from the 7-Eleven. DeMarco surprised Miles while he was on his own. And he intended to kidnap him.
Seth saw it happening. He called Nolan. Nolan came in with backup and Seth stopped DeMarco from leaving with Miles. DeMarco was arrested, but Miles was left in worse trouble than before. Tim was prepared to fire him. Even Seth got yelled at because he’s technically a civilian now.
There’s no way that either of them should’ve been there and in fact Nolan had already warned Miles against doing so. Things went well in Mexico. They arrested their Costa Sangre men. They weren’t the killers. The killers turned out be a rival gang that tried to rob the women and ended up killing them when they pulled off one guy’s mask.
There were several arrests. Their killer will be extradited back to the States. Everyone was glad to be going home. They just didn’t account for Miles getting into trouble or that he will be suspended for two weeks. Or that his probation has been increased by six months.
Nolan went to bat to protect him and now Miles has six months to make it up to him. Nolan had a rough couple of weeks. His wife sent him a few goodie packages to make him feel better and it made him miss her all the more.
And Harper returned home to her family where she hopes she too still has a job.
THE END!
