On tonight’s The Voice episode, the Battles continued on tonight’s episode. Up first was Team Adam. Adam brought in Benji Madden to act as a mentor for his team. The two are great friends. Together they make magic. The first battle went to Jared and Drew. They channeled a rock energy together. Which was perfect for the song. Adam gave them the song “Leather and Lace”. He’s performed several it times. He’s sung it to his wife. He’s even sung it to Benji’s voicemail. He really loves this song and he worked with this team to make sure that they didn’t fail it either.

Their duet was beautiful. The other coaches kinda wanted them to end up together afterwards, but Drew was married. Jared has a girlfriend. They still sounded great together so its unfortunate that one of them had to go. Adam named Jared as the winner of this battle. He was sad to see Drew go. He hugged her on the way out. Kelly was also left worried. She said she was feeling like Adam’s team was stronger than she thought in the Blinds. She and John also talked about this battle. They both felt these two should keep performing together.

Team Kelly was next. Kelly paired Houston and Tia together. She did so right after the blinds. It was her friend who agreed to act as a mentor that got them ready. Jennifer Hudson was really stepping up. She was a mentor as well as a former coach. Kelly was taking so much time off that it was really just Jennifer coaching them. She saw that she brought Tia out of her genre to pair her with Houston. Houston was Country. Tia was Soul with a little bit of Gospel. Kelly gave them the song “Either Way”. It was the perfect blend of their genres.

Jennifer helped these two tell a story. They were worried about a duet when the song was full of doubt. It was okay to let that doubt enter their voice. It was so good that Jennifer threw her shoe and that was just rehearsals. The live performance was beautiful. John’s first words were that it’s a good day because every duet was killing it so far. Adam felt the winner was Houston because he maintained a high raspy tone. John’s favorite was Tia because her tone was subtle. She told the story more for him.

Kelly chose Houston. It’s what she was already leaning towards when she paired these two together. The producer assisting her with the grouping said that Tia could sing anything and the truth was that she shouldn’t have to sing anything. It was never once considered taking Houston out of his genre to see how well he does. Unless it was as good as Tia, she was the stronger performer. She should’ve stayed. Next up was Team Adam again. It was weird because there was just three coaches this season and so you’d think Team John would go. Adam already had more performances the last battle. Did something happen behind the scenes?

Adam paired Aziz and Jeremy together. They were given the song “My Cherie Amour”. Jeremy was used to performing in the back and so he needed to be more upfront with his voice. Aziz was being pretty chill with his voice. Adam told him he needed to hear a sense of urgency in it instead. Aziz performed in Spanish and English. Jeremy performed in English. Adam felt that Jeremy was taking the lead during rehearsals. Only he added that things can change in a minute because the final performance could go differently.

It did in the sense that Aziz stepped up in a big way. He was rather sweet. His voice was the same. It just didn’t conquer against a seasoned professional like Jeremy. Jeremy’s voice was truly something. Adam didn’t want to risk losing that. He named Jeremy as the winner of this battle and this was it for Aziz. He’s young. He can always come back next season. Adam has managed to hold onto his Steal. He has to use it or lose it soon so who knew which lucky artist he steals from another team. And until then it was Team John’s turn.

John paired Kendra and Natasha together. They were different genres. One was Country. The other was Pop. He gave them a song that would test the both of them. He gave them “Walk On By”. It brought out the soulful tones in both of their voices. It also helps that the two women quickly began to bond. They didn’t want to step on each other’s toes with the song. Adam was so stunned by their performance that he didn’t help John in the slightest. He refused to name a winner. It wasn’t a fakeout on his end either. He was stumped.

John named Natasha as the winner because this leaned a little more towards her genre. She sounded amazing with this song. Plus, everyone loved her dress. This included Kelly. This was also the end for Kendra. Kendra showed off an amazing raspy voice. Its such a shame she didn’t get to utilize it as best she could. Team Kelly was next. She paired Jonah and Aaron. They were powerhouses in different ways. Kelly really should be there herself, but her focus right now seemed to be on her family and no one can fault that.

Not when she left someone as capable as Jennifer in her place. Jennifer got these two working together. Jonah couldn’t out-sing Aaron. He only could do the best he could in his own field. It ended up being exactly what Kelly was looking for. Kelly didn’t see the hard work that went into it. Jennifer really had to boost his confidence. She made Johnah push their insecurities to the side and his edge was what impressed Kelly. Aaron was good too. He has a great voice and he could hit that high note like no one else. It just wasn’t what Kelly was looking for so she named Jonah as the winner.

Team John was up again. This time he paired Ashley and Syd together. Both should’ve been three chair turns only Kelly already had a full team by time Syd performed. She was still angry she missed out on her. Syd impressed everyone by singing Jessie J. She was Pop. Ashley was Country/Rock. John gave them a doozey. He gave them Mariah Carey. It was the song “Love Takes Time”. It gave them both such great moments. It also tested their limits. Ashley’s voice got a little pitchy in certain moments.

Ashley was eighteen. She was still growing into that voice. Syd was a little older. She was twenty-three. She’s also been working as a wedding singer for the past three years so her voice put in the work. Syd was the natural choice. She was a winner. John knew he could go further with her because in spite it being the name of the show – it wasn’t just about the voice. Syd was confident onstage. She had presence. Team Kelley was back at it. She teamed up Julia with Abigayle. Their voices were similar and their genres do a lot of crossovers.

One was Country. The other was Indie/Folk. Kelly gave them the song “Rhiannon”. Stevie Nicks was definitely voted most popular of the night. The artists themselves both struggled in the final performance. They were stronger in the Blinds. Kelly now knows that they need space in the music. It came too little too late for one of them. The winner of this battle was Abigayle. Kelley liked her intensity in her storytelling. They were followed by Team John again. John paired KJ and Mike together.

Both men were R&B. They were given “Let Me Love You”. It was perfect for them because they both did an answer and call back rather than harmonizing. It added to the song. Muni also gave them a little tip. She said there shouldn’t be more than eight notes long in a run. It’s what top charting music all have in common. Muni was there tonight handing out the ingredients. Both men gave a great performance. It was so good that Kelly laughingly told John he was so screwed. It was that good.

John was proud of both men. Yet he could only name one winner. He named KJ as the winner of this battle and then Adam finally used his Steal to get Mike on his team. It was a perfect end to the Battles!

THE END!
