In tonight’s Watson episode, Dr. John Watson helped a couple get pregnant in 2007. The woman and her husband had been struggling for years to start a family. Yet Watson gave them their hope back. He was the doctor that performed in-vitro on them. Waston has therefore been their son’s doctor since before Kyren Gardner was born.

They knew he would have a heart defect from in utero. They didn’t know he had VACTERL until his birth. VACTERL was an amalgamation of several disorders and conditions. Kyren has had so many surgeries that he grew up at the hospital. His father thought it was too much. He left. It was now just Kyren and his mother.

Kyren had what was supposed to be his final surgery in 2024. It was also the first case that Watson worked on with his fellows at the Holmes Clinic. Back then, there was another member of the team. Her name was Paola Barajas. She was the surgeon that performed on Kyren. It had looked successful.

Kyren was finally supposed to be starting college on tonight’s all new episode when a few sneezes displaced the rod holding up his spine. He had to be rushed into surgery. He was so angry.

Kyren had spinal fusion. Only his spine wasn’t fused together. Mary opened him up and she told Watson that the surgery didn’t take. They needed to know why it failed before they could try it again.

Watson ordered his fellows to find what went wrong. He struggled with talking to Kyren and his mother in the meantime. They both blamed him for what happened. Kyren was so angry. He said he should never have been born. He asked his mother if she knew he would go through so much pain. And she admitted she knew about the heart defect.

There was a small chance that it could’ve resolved itself on its own. Watson also told her at the time that there were plenty of means of becoming a mother. Kyren was her last chance at a biological child. She had had eight miscarriages before him. With Watson’s help, Kyren was the child that took.

She found out about the heart issue when she was five months along and she didn’t have any more eggs to use. She knew that her husband was worried about having a sick child. She went ahead with he pregnancy in spite being given the option of an egg donor or adoption.

Marlise chose to go ahead with the pregnancy. Something Kyren was angry about. Kyren sued Watson and UHOP for wrongful life. He doesn’t believe he should’ve been born. He said his mother wouldn’t have gone through the pregnancy if she knew he’d be in pain for all of his life.

Kyren also felt his father wouldn’t have left his mother if it hadn’t been for Watson. He sued. The hospital wanted to settle and the only thing Kyren wanted in return was an apology. He fired Watson as his doctor. He moved to a different hospital.

He didn’t want Watson treating him. Or trying to help him anymore. The next time that Watson saw him was at the deposition. It was in a lawyer’s office and Kyren wasn’t doing too well. Watson finally figured out what was wrong with him. He asked Kyren to let him treat him and Kyren was turning him down when he passed out.

Kyren had an infection in his spine. There was nothing that Paola did that caused this. Nor could Watson could’ve known about it before he figured out that Kyren getting treated for UTIs wasn’t that at all.

Kyren was rushed back to UHOP. His mother gave them her consent to treat him. They came up with a new plan of fixing his back. It was going to be a joint taskforce with Paolo at the other hospital. They were all going to be working together. Paola was actually surprised that UHOP doesn’t have the same tech as she does at her current hospital.

She annoyed Mary with that comment, but she got some alone time with Sasha. Sasha filled Paola in on the latest gossip. Yes, Ingrid apologizes now and sometimes she even means it. And Sasha ended things with Zach so that she could pursue new things with Stephens.

The same Stephens that told Watson he wasn’t listening to the patient. Kyren didn’t want to be told to live. He wanted to be supported through whatever decision he makes about his own life. Watson stopped being his doctor long enough to be his friend. Kyren agreed to go ahead with one more surgery.

Both of his parents watched on from viewing den. The same for the fellows at the clinic. Ingrid’s story with Paola wasn’t as simple as she let Sasha believe. There wasn’t animosity. It instead felt like attraction.

And Mary was going to start a 3D Ortho program right there at the hospital. They won’t be needing Beechview Hospital after this and Mary wanted to keep pushing that field ahead with innovation.

THE END!
