On tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, Meredith finally got the chance to meet Nick’s sister. She flew in from the West Coast. She also showed up with a six week old. The baby’s name is Miles. Nick had no clue his sister was pregnant or that she had another baby. He practically raised her first child because she was a drug addict.
He didn’t really think her having a second opportunity with a new child was a new child was a good thing. He was worried if he had to step in again. The first thing he asked about was the father. His sister broke up with the father. They dated a year ago. She was the one to end it.
She joked that he couldn’t beat him up after gym class. Only he wasn’t laughing. Nick now knew she had no support network. He was worried he might have taken custody of little Miles and so he grilled his sister.
He demanded to know how long if she’s been so sober? How long she’s been sober? He wanted to know if she used during her pregnancy. Meredith was surprisingly the reasonable one out of the two of them. She greeted the other woman like it was no big deal she showed up with a baby.
Meredith also helped take care of the baby. It allowed Nick some more time to talk to his sister. She’s been clean for two years. She works in a law office. She has a job with benefits and she was on maternity leave.
She was already looking into daycares. She sorted out her life. Nick just doesn’t believe she has. He’s been down this road with her before. She had a few good years and then she slips. She always slips. Nick was used to it by now. Its why he’s been in and out of her life for years. Nick was used to Erica.
Meredith was just getting to know her. Erica made out that her life was good. She had a plan. She had everything under control and Nick was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Nick told Meredith that Erica tends to bury the lead.
She would hide things from him and then act surprised when he would get upset. It was like he didn’t have a right to his anger or expect her to tell him things. She did that with the baby too. Erica went to go use the bathroom. The next thing they knew they heard the front door. Erica took off in her car without the baby.
Back in Seattle, Richard had his surgery. He was getting treated for prostate cancer. He was under for a while and he saw his dead dad. They got to talking. They talked about everything they didn’t discuss in life. He had asked Bailey to keep his wife busy during his surgery. She fired three of his nurses in under thirty minutes. He knew she was acting up because she cared. She demanded he had a private room. She demanded that he gets the VIP treatment. Catherine wasn’t much better during the surgery.
Richard owes Bailey big. Catherine checked his will. She found out that he wanted to be buried next to his first wife, Adele. The two never got divorced. She developed Alzheimer’s.
She died not remembering him. It was a sore spot because he lost two women he loved to that disease, but his decision to be buried next to Adele had hurt Catherine. She wanted to know why he didn’t want to be buried next to her. She then got the bright idea to buy the plot on Richard’s other side so that they all could be buried together.
Bailey wanted to be cremated. It gave Catherine idea. She suddenly wanted to cremated so that she could laid out on Richard’s grave and technically be closer to him than Adele was.
Richard’s surgery was thankfully a success. He woke up to Bailey and not Catherine. Catherine promised to stay off the floor as long as Bailey stayed at Richard’s bedside till he woke up. Bailey did that. Catherine eventually was so relieved that she didn’t take him to task for his burial methods. And Richard had an epiphany.
Richard survived the cancer that killed his father and a part was always going to feel guilty about it.
The interns also got up to something shady because when do they don’t. They helped a patient lie about his pain level to get his insurance to approve surgery for him.
He had a tumor in his shoulder right there on his nerve system. He works multiple jobs and couldn’t afford to miss too much or risk losing the insurance. So, they helped him to force the insurance to approve surgery now rather than in three months. He was still in pain. They just lied about the pain level.
The tumor was later removed. The interns didn’t get in trouble even as Winston figured out what they did. He let this one slide because insurance companies sometimes make things difficult for no reason.
Erica soon came back. She was sleep deprived. She came to Boston because she was worried about her sobriety and she took a drive so that she could talk to her sponsor. She has a sponsor now. She was attending AA Meetings. Erica’s life was going well and unfortunately that doesn’t mean she wasn’t struggling.
She was still a new mom. She needed help. Nick stopped judging her long enough to provide that help. They can figure everything else out over the next few days. Erica was going to be staying with them in their guest room with Miles.
Nick was just glad that he didn’t have to raise a baby because for those two hours he freaked out.
THE END!
